Defining Stress

Let's look at how stress is generally defined. Stress can be anything that disrupts the internal balance of your body from a physiological standpoint. Mentally, stress is a condition experienced when demands exceed your personal or social resources in order to keep moving forward. Mental stress directly feeds into your physical being, and a feedback loop of your body excreting stress-response hormones, combined with your prefrontal cortex (that does all the thinking) recognizing that life isn't optimal, keeps the cycle going until you do something to stop the vicious cycle. 

Your Ability to Self-Regulate: Teaming Up with Your Vagus Nerve

Now let's look at your body and how everything connects when stress becomes involved. From the base of your brain, your vagus nerve travels down to your lungs and heart, and down into your gut, and all of your vital organs. Your vagal nerve is crucial to your Autonomic Nervous System, including both your parasympathetic system and your sympathetic system. Parasympathetic refers to your "rest and digest" functioning. (An easy way to remember this connection is to allow the para-sympathetic to work gently, para-chuting down into a relaxing state.) Your sympathetic nervous system is your "flight or fight" system, which has its rightful place in your body, but can be overused and downright unhealthy in our high-demand culture, causing burnout. 

Your vagus nerve is the main highway from your brain to your internal organs, and it relays information to and from your mind to keep your body safe and in homeostasis. How can you optimize the functioning of this superhighway in order to manage stress? It's this simple...

Take a deep breath. That's it! Inhale deeply into your diaphragm, pause briefly, and exhale out longer than how you inhaled. Here's a tip to know that you're taking your deepest breath possible: put one hand on your heart and one hand on your stomach, and feel your stomach extend with each intake of air. Your chest should not move. This will guarantee that you are taking a deep breath. And by having your hand on your heart, you can remind your nervous system how much you love and care for yourself! 

By taking about 3 - 5 mindful deep breaths, your vagus nerve joins in the chorus of your breaths, and acts like a switch that turns off from your sympathetic system and plugs into your parasympathetic system. This simple practice can take you out of the "danger zone" and into ease, grace, love, and trust almost instantly. Your body can then go into repair, rejuvenation, and relaxation. No need to stress. Beyond the Vagus Nerve

Now that we've discussed your parasympathetic nervous system and sympathetic nervous system, it's time to recognize your Autonomic Nervous System. 4. Roots and Extracts: The Entourage Effect & The Both-And Method

Adrenal Assist was carefully formulated with both forms of Rhodiola, Ashwagandha and Tulsi Basil, i.e. the "whole herb" and the extracts of these three highly powerful ingredients. Why both versions? Because Adrenal Assist is not your grandmother's catch-all remedy for "what ails you." This formula is hands-down superior to the majority of adrenal and nervous system boosts found anywhere.

Both-And Method. Over the last decade, there's been great research into the pros and cons of extracts and distillates vs the whole-herb approaches to natural healing with these potent plants.
