Veritable Vegetable Wins 2019 Top Green Provider from Food Logistics
Veritable Vegetable was awarded Top Green Provider by Food Logistics magazine. The annual Top Green Providers list showcases companies that have found new ways to promote sustainability throughout their operations and to their customers.Sustainability is on every company’s mind as consumers are wanting to know where their products are coming from and if they’re ethically sourced. Studies have shown that consumers will become loyal to companies that have a good global conscience. In the food and beverage industry, having a green initiative is a must-have in order to reduce the global food supply chain’s carbon footprint.
Women-led, and the nation’s oldest organic produce distributor, our environmental efforts are far-reaching and include diverting 99% of waste from landfill, offsetting energy use through a 560-panel solar array, utilizing sustainable materials and non-toxic cleaning supplies and paints throughout our facilities, and running a near-zero emission fleet of trucks, fueled by renewable diesel. We are also experimenting with solar on sleeper tractors to reduce engine drag and improve fuel economy, keep electrical systems at full voltage, and increase battery life by reducing demand on them.
We are very proud to receive this award. Our environmental efforts are vast and reach every part of our business. If every company placed more emphasis on environmental efforts, we would see systemic shifts in energy and resource use, greenhouse gas emissions, and of course our agricultural systems. We hope that our leadership in the industry will provide an example for other small and mid-sized businesses looking to incorporate more environmental practices into their operations.
